Whole Life Challenge!

I have been a health and wellness coach for almost 2 years now, and one of the hardest things is when someone you’re working with falls off the map.  You pour into someone’s life and they do well for a while, then slowly they stop answering phone calls and start going back in the same direction you helped them get out of!  It breaks my heart to see people start a transformation and then not complete it!  Everyone has their different reasons for backing down, but many times it boils down to mindsetOur mindsets can hold us back from breakthrough!  So hence, birthed the idea of a 60 day whole life challenge!  Where we not only help conquer clean eating, cleansing, and exercise, but we also deal with this stubborn thing called mindset!!

I am so excited for this challenge because never before have I offered a health challenge in conjunction with a mindset training!  This could transform those who choose to participate and complete it!  Yes, it will take commitment and time, but you are so worth it!!

Here are the details:  Challenge starts Sept. 21st and ends November 18th (yes, right before Thanksgiving)!  Daily you will log-in and complete a mindset training.  It should take about 15mins of your time!!  Everyone has 15mins they can use to help transform their mindset!!  You will use a nutritional cleansing system every day for the 60 days!  Yes, your body needs help getting rid of those built up toxins that make your body store fat and make you feel run down and sluggish!!  Plus, it will replenish your body with much needed nutrients!  You will get a 20 min weekly coaching call from one of my clean eating coaches.  We will help you learn about clean eating, give you recipes, and tips on clean eating.  We will help you create and make a meal plan to help you stay successful!  You will be added to a private FB coaching page.  We will also be hosting bi-weekly group calls to help hold each other accountable!

Effective Prayer Part 2

The other day I wrote piece on effective prayer part 1.  I discussed the importance of being persistent when we pray.  There is power when we pray and don’t give up!!  Too often, we pray one wimpy prayers and think that is going to change our situation!!  God is looking for tenacious people who will stand on God’s promises!

As I mentioned in the last blog, being persistent is only one part of the equation.  The other part is taking action!!  In the story of Elijah, God told him it was going to rain, so Elijah prayed hard and persistent!  However, he also had action!! After Elijah prayed, he told his servant, “Go look toward the sea,” (1Kings 18:43).  Seven times he did this and did not give up!  See Elijah put faith behind his prayer.  He wholeheartedly believed God was going to answer his prayer and acted in accordance to his faith!!  We can pray all day, but not until we put action behind our prayer does our prayer move from simple words we speak, to heartfelt faith that God will do what He says He will do!

God sometimes ask us to get our feet wet!  We are always wanting God to go first, for Him to make the first move.  Where all along, God is waiting on us!  He is waiting on us to say we believe you God, we trust you God, we surrender our agenda to you God!!  Mark Batterson states, “But it is often our unwillingness to take a step of faith and get our feet wet that keeps us from experiencing a miracle.” Do you want to see God move in your life?? Maybe it’s time we start moving too!!

Let’s look at the story of the Shunammite woman when her son is restored to life in 2 Kings 4:16.  We are told her son dies in her arms and she carries him up and puts him in Elisha’s bed and hurries to summon Elisha.  She could have sat and mourned and cried out to God, but she didn’t.  She knew that Elisha was a man of God and could restore her son.  So she put action behind her persistent prayer!  However, the action doesn’t stop there!! It states, “He (Elisha) went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed to the Lord.  Then he got on the bed and lay upon the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands.  As he stretched himself out upon him, the boy’s body grew warm. Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out upon him once more.  The boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.” (2 Kings 4:32-35).  Did you catch that… He prayed.. boy still dead… he lay on the boy… boy still dead…he prayed..lay on the boy… prayers answered!!!  Now that is faith!!!  Elisha had such faith that God would restore his life that he laid on a dead person!!  Action behind prayer=faith!!!

I am not saying you have to do extreme things to see your prayers answered.  Most the time it is not a extreme action that is needed to show faith, sometimes it can be small and seemingly insignificant action.  However, it is action showing you trust in God.

What action is God calling you to today!!

Effective Prayer Part 1

The other day, my husband was speaking at our Praise in the Park event, he was talking about praying effectively. One thing he said really impacted me.  He was talking about the prophet Elijah and how Elijah was told by God it was going to rain (1 Kings18-19).  Now remember Elijah is the one who prayed it wouldn’t rain and it didn’t rain for 3 years.  Now God told him to pray for rain and He would send it!  Here is what got to me, Elijah didn’t just pray once, but he kept praying and looking for the rain until it happened.  God had told him it was going to rain, but Elijah didn’t stop praying until the rain happened!  That really got me thinking, about all the words of prophecy that have been spoken over me or the words God spoke directly to my heart, that I have yet see happen.  Could it be that I haven’t seen them come to pass because I haven’t been persistent in prayer over them.  So often I think, we get a word from God and we are excited about it, but that excitement fizzles and so does our prayer.  How many of those words would have come to pass, if we were persistent in our prayers.

When my husband spoke, it was like a light bulb that came on inside of me.  So much frustration has happened in the past because I have received words and I haven’t seen them come to pass.  When they didn’t happen, it made me wonder if I had heard God right or the person who spoke the word over me had heard God correctly.  When in actuality, the words were correct I just didn’t follow them up with persistent prayer.

This made me think, was there other places in the Bible that talked about persistent prayer.  Then, the Holy Spirit remind me of this Shunammite Woman (check out 2Kings 4).  Elisha had prayed over her and told her she was going to have a son and sure enough she did have a son.  But after some time, her son got sick and died.  This woman did not give up. She continued in persistent prayer all the way to find Elisha. All the way back from finding Elisha and coming home she stayed in persistent prayer. Then Elisha took over the mantle persistent prayer and he prayed for her son to be raised back to life. You know what happened… he came back to life!!!

All of this prompted a question in my heart: what if God gives us words of knowledge or wisdom or prophecy over our life to give us a direction of prayer. Sometimes we don’t know what to pray for but God is given us direction by these words spoken over us. I think the misconception is, that because these words are spoken over us there’s no need to pray about them. However, the word being spoken over us is just the beginning of walking out God’s destiny through persistent prayer in our lives.

As I began to study this topic of effective prayer, God showed me another aspect to effective prayer that is just as important as being persistent. He showed it to me in both the story of Elijah and the Shunammite Woman! Want to hear what He showed me??? Check out part 2 on my next blog.

Homemade Water-Resistant Sunblock

I know it’s August and your thinking back to school, not sunblock! However, I have been on a mission to switch out old chemical laden products with homemade good for you products.  Well, we just ran out of your old sunblock and still have Labor Day events that will need sunblock.  I thought I would need to make sunblock much sooner in the summer, however, our family doesn’t use much sunblock.  Yes, even with 5 kids we don’t use much sunblock!  Why you may ask?? There are a few reasons we don’t use much sunblock, one is our skin is our largest organ and easily absorbs toxins and most sunblocks you buy over the counter are loaded with chemicals.  Second, our body needs vitamin D and that is absorbed from the sun!  Allowing moderate time out in the sun without sunblock is so important for us northern folks! We only have a few short months to take advantage of God’s natural vitamin D!  However, also living in the land of 10,000 lakes means that there will be days we need sunblock or we will be a fried critter!

Once we ran out of our old sunblock I started my search for water-resistant sunblock.  I found a great recipe on http://holisticsquid.com/homemade-sunscreen/.  I liked the recipe she gave and only made a few small changes!  Making homemade sunblock is super simple once you gather the ingredients!!  To the left is a pic of all the items you will need to gather to make it: Coconut Oil, Zinc Oxide Powder (non-nano), Raw Shea Butter, Beeswax, Olive Oil, Grater, Container to put sunblock in, 2 pots or double boiler, spoon or spatula.

Here is a Pic of my homemade double boiler!  This works great and there is no need to store another pot I only would pull out once in a while!  You just need two different sized pots and a little water to the bottom one and away you go!

Water Resistant Sunscreen

  • 2 ounces(aprox 1/4 cup) raw shea butter –get it here

Homemade sunscreen method

  1. Finely grate the beeswax and weigh or measure the grated bits to 2 ounces.
  2. In a double boiler, melt the beeswax, cocoa butter, and coconut oil until liquid. Remove from heat.
  3. Slowing whisk in the zinc, stirring until all lumps are gone. When this mixture is slightly cooled, stir in the liquid oil until well combined.
  4. Use a butter knife to scoop the sunscreen into containers.

Living in the Future Robs You From the Present

Yesterday, I was reading an article from T. Harv Eker that struck a cord in me.  Eker talks about how many of us are missing our life now because we are so concerned about being x, y, or z, then we can do the things we want to do.  Two things happen when we plant ourselves in this kind of thinking.  One, is we constantly put ourselves in a negative mindset that we are not good enough.  The second is we miss God given opportunities.

What we think about is so critical to our daily lives!  When we play the mantra that we are not good enough, we put our mind on what is lacking in our life instead of what God has already placed in our life.  We dwell in a land of scarcity.  When we have this mentality, guess what….. good enough never comes.  When you reach one milestone, you subconsciously sabotage yourself to not being good enough in another area.  Mindset is key!!  What you dwell on will manifest in your life! Don’t think mentality is that big of deal?? Look at the first generation of Israelites, they always complained and had the mentality of lack.  Did they ever make it into the promise land??? No! They died in the desert wandering!  Negative thinking about can literally STEAL God’s promises for your life.

This never good enough mentality boils down to us operating in a spirit of perfection.  The spirit of perfection,  keeps you in a busy whirlwind of trying to make everything perfect, that you never actually get to live life in the presence.  The spirit of perfection, is always telling you everything that is wrong with you and how you never measure up.  Can you relate to that???  I know I can, how many times have I thought twice about opening my house up to company because it was not clean enough. Or seen someone in need of prayer, but felt in adequate to pray over them because I was still struggling with that in my own life. So many missed moments of truly sharing God with others because of this nasty spirit.  It is time we stop our stinkn’ thinkn’ and close the door on the spirit of perfection.  Yes, its that easy!  God has given us power over the enemy, and we can literally tell these thoughts to go to hell!!  Romans 12:2 tells us to renew our minds.  Literally it means to completely change for the better!

Putting the truth in you mind everyday is so key!!  That is part of the renewing process!  Stop those old thoughts of not good enough and remind yourself what God says!!  You are good enough, that God created you with a plan and purpose and fully equipped you!! It reminds me of the song by Blanca called Who I Am, and the chorus goes, “I am strong, beautiful, I am good enough.” Remind yourself of that daily!  Stop dwelling on what the perfect future would look like and start Loving Life Now!! I leave you with this command that God gave Moses in Deuteronomy 30:19, “I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.  NOW choose LIFE!”

Just Because Your 30 Doesn’t Mean You Are Destined To Be Over Weight

How many of you have heard that your metabolism slows down after you turn 30???  Yes, I am sure everyone of you have.  I have always had a hidden fear about turning 30 simply because I didn’t want to become overweight.  Silly, I know!  See when I was growing up, my mom always complained about her weight, and she was never happy with herself.  When I was a little kids I swore that I would never be over weight.  See, I thought that being skinny=being healthy and happy.  Oh boy, did I have a lot to learn!!  It wasn’t until I was just about 30 that I had to come face to face with my false belief about weight.  For the most part, I was the type of person that could eat just about anything and not gain weight.  Even after my pregnancies, I had a fairly easy time dropping the weight.  I thought for the most part I was a healthy person.  I had good friends try and share about the importance of eating healthy, but honestly I didn’t pay much attention.  I thought, I’m not over weight so why should I care so much about the food I eat.  Well, in the year of 2013, that all came to a crashing halt.  Bad eating had begun to catch up with me, I had become the heaviest I ever had been in my adult life.  I was tired all the time.  I lived for nap time!!  Ever been there? Sad part was, that I didn’t have any children taking naps anymore, but I still was!  I tried all the normal things to lose weight – cut calories and exercise, but not a pound would budge.  Yes, the thought crossed my mind, maybe it’s because I am almost 30.  However, I refused to settle for that excuse!  I didn’t want to just sit back and accept defeat!  I started to dig in and find the truth about the food we ate!  Thankfully, God sent good friends to speak into my life again.  The difference…. this time I listened!!  I was simply amazed at how the processed food I had been consuming for years was affecting my body!! YIKES!!  I was at a complete loss for words, when I realized all the sugar in everything we were consuming!!  My chiropractor had suggested a book to read, called Maximized Living Nutrition Plan!!   That helped give me the information I needed to change how we ate!  Starting September 1, 2013, our whole family started our healthy eating journey!! Month one had it’s ups and downs.  We had some great meals and some not so great meals!  During that month another friend of mine, Christal Cheney, introduced me to this nutritional cleansing system, called Isagenix. It fit in perfectly

with what we were doing! It was a complete nutritional cleansing system!  Oh boy!  Did I need cleansing!!!  Isagenix was like the missing piece I was looking for!  Within the first two months, I released 20 lbs (we say released because if you lose something you find it, and I didn’t want to find that again) and Jonathan released 30 lbs!

The best part was that I felt like I gained my life back!  I didn’t need naps anymore! I felt like the fog that had been over my life had lifted! I gained back my passion for life again! I know my whole family could tell a difference in me!! Not only did I use Isagenix products, but my whole family starting using them!  See it’s not just a weight loss program, it’s a nutrition program!  Our soils are depleted and do not have the nutrition in them like they used too!  When I started using Isagenix it was like my body lit up from all the vitamins and minerals that were in the products because I was lacking them in the foods I ate!!  My kids’ health has been affected dramatically too!!  In two years, we literally have had 1 kiddo get sick with the flu!!  We would be with people and find out the next day they had gotten sick, but we would never get sick!  Having good nutrition has boosted our immune system so much, we could fight off sickness with no problem. I thank God, that He brought this into our lives!  I truly believe that God wants me to pass this gift I have been given on to others!  Yes, I said gift!!  Health is truly a precious gift we are given, and making sure we guard our health and invest into our health is so vital!  My team is working passionately to empower other families with the gift of health!!  If you want to learn more about this amazing gift check out our Facebook event Tuesday August 18th at 8pm here.  Or check out this video Why Isagenix and shoot me a message to learn more!

Meatless Zucchini Boats

It is garden season and my kitchen is overflowing with produce!!  Which is great, but sometimes I have a hard time knowing what to make with it all!  My friend mentioned that she was going to make zucchini boats and I thought that was a great idea, but I didn’t have any meat thawed!  So, I decided to experiment!!  I had quinoa on hand and knew that was a great protein source! So, I threw a bunch of veggies together, added cottage cheese and quinoa, and BAM made a zucchini boat! Thankfully, this experiment turned out great!!  IMG_4347(1)

Recipe:

1 large Zucchini cut in half and seeded (or several small ones)

1 onion

1 green pepper

2 cloves garlic

3 tomatoes chopped up

1 tsp basil

1 tsp oregano

1 tsp salt

1 tsp pepper

1/2 cup cottage cheese

1/2 cup mozzarella cheese

1 cup cooked quinoa

In a pan saute onions, garlic, peppers.  Add tomatoes, spices, and cottage cheese.  Cook till heated through.  Add quinoa.  Scoop mixture into zucchini.  Place zucchini on a baking sheet and cook at 350 for about 30 mins or until you can easily fork the zucchini.  Top Zucchini off with mozzarella cheese and bake until cheese is melted!
